Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the quality of life in medical school students and to evaluate its relationship with some factors.
Method: Our study is a cross-sectional study conducted between November and December 2022. The universe and sample of the study are 868 students studying at Kütahya Health Sciences University Faculty of Medicine. The first part of the questionnaire includes sociodemographic characteristics, and the second part includes the Quality of Life Test Short Form-36 (SF-36). Mann-Whitney U Test and Kruskal Wallis test were used to compare continuous variables. For statistical significance, p<0.05 level was accepted as significant.
Results: A total of 745 students participated in the study, of which 383 (51.41%) were male and 362 were female (48.59%). Of the participants, 421 (56.51%) were in the preclinical period and 324 (43.49%) were in the clinical period. The highest average score of the participants from the sub-dimensions of the SF-36 scale was physical function, and the lowest average was energy (vitality). A significant relationship was found between gender and all sub-dimensions except mental health, and the mean scores of men were found to be higher than women in all sub-dimensions. A significant relationship was found between the period and physical function and energy (vitality), which are sub-dimensions and while the scores of the clinical term students were higher in the physical function sub-dimension, the preclinical students' scores were higher in the energy (vitality) sub-dimension.
Conclusion: Regular nutrition, physical activity, taking time for oneself, and regulating sleep time have positive effects on students' quality of life; chronic illness and economic hardship negatively affect it.

Tıp Fakültesi Öğrencilerinde Yaşam Kalitesi ve İlişkili Faktörler: Kesitsel Bir Araştırma

Year 2024, Volume: 10 Issue: 3, 485 - 493, 19.09.2024
https://doi.org/10.53394/akd.1339024
