This study attempts to analyze the diary/journal genre in Turkish textbooks within the scope of text type analysis. In essence, based on the fact that the diary genre is not sufficiently included in Turkish textbooks, it is emphasized why it is important for students to recognize the characteristics of this genre and to develop their writing skills. In the study, the characteristics of the diary genre were mentioned, and it was stated that this genre has an individual and internal aspect. In addition, the historical origins of diary, its place in the literature and examples of important authors were also discussed in the study. In this sense, the basic qualitative research design was used in the study and the data was collected using the source scanning technique and the collected data was analyzed using the document analysis method. The study emphasizes that texts and activities suitable for diary genre should be included in Turkish textbooks in order to improve students' writing skills and increase their vocabulary. However, the analyses revealed that some Turkish textbooks do not include sufficient materials and activities within this genre. Finally, this study suggests that more materials and activities suitable for the diary genre should be added to Turkish textbooks in order to enable Turkish learners to better understand the diary/journal genre and to improve themselves in the literary field.

In conclusion, this study recommends the addition of more materials and activities aligned with the diary genre in Turkish textbooks to better enable Turkish learners to grasp the diary/journal genre and improve their literary competence.
