STEM-Based Science Instruction with Artificial Intelligence Integration: An Educational Vision for the 21st Century

Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive literature review investigating the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in STEM-based science instruction to shape an educational vision for the 21st century. The methodology employs a systematic search across major academic databases, including SSCI, ESCI, ERIC, Scopus, Web of Science, TR-Index, and Google Scholar, covering the period from 2016 to 2025. Following a rigorous screening process based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria—focusing on peer-reviewed articles, project-based learning, and 21st-century skills—a total of 56 studies were selected. The findings highlight a pedagogical paradigm shift where AI tools facilitate personalized feedback, predictive analytics, and enhanced teacher practices within STEM frameworks. Based on these insights, the study articulates an explicit educational vision characterized by the optimization of interdisciplinary STEM applications and the evolution of teacher roles from lecturers to facilitators in AI-integrated environments. This refined framework aims to provide a transparent and actionable roadmap for educators and curriculum designers in the modern era.
