Abstract
Yunus Emre is an important scholar who lived in the 13th century. The ideas expressed by Yunus Emre in his works and his mental world offer important solutions for some problems both in his own century and today. The national identity, economic structure, cultural and ecological dimensions of globalization threaten humanity in many ways. The “I consume, then I exist” motto created by globalization threatens many areas and values, especially ecology. The consumption culture that has become widespread with globalization and the resulting waste, is one of the biggest problems of the 21st century. Consumption, which has become widespread with globalization, and waste, which has emerged as a result, are among the issues that Yunus Emre touches on. Yunus Emre stated that consumption should have a balance while processing the balance that a person should have in his life. Yunus Emre accepted consumption not only as the consumption of the substance but also as the consumption of time and life. He stated that the consumption of matter, time and life should be in balance. He conveyed the doctrine of balance towards the consumption of matter on the axis of attitude towards matter, generosity, stinginess and sharing. He based the doctrine of balance on the consumption of time on mortal time. He explained the doctrine of balance for the consumption of life through the order in which efforts must be made to have it. All of the solutions offered to the consumption impasse that humanity is in in the era in which we live are included in Yunus Emre as an experience and idea. The announcement of 2021 as the Year of Yunus Emre should be considered as an opportunity to spread these ideas.
