Abstract

Cromer’in Mısır’daki vazifesi, işgalin Mısır'da devam ettirilmesi anlamına gelen İngiliz resmi sömürgecilik uygulamasıyla uyumlu gözükür. Cromer’in politikası, sömürgelerdeki İngilizlerin bazen hükümeti ikna ederek bazen de kendi başlarına eylemleri gerçekleştirdiğini savunan Fieldhouse’ın iddiasıyla uyumludur.

This study, focusing on the case of Cromer, offers some interpretations of British imperialism in Egypt from the 1883 to 1907. Cromer’s duty in Egypt seems compatible with formal British imperialist practice, which a policy meant to continue the occupation of Egypt. Cromer’s policy is an appropriate example of Fieldhouse’s argument that Britishers on the periphery undertook actions sometimes by convincing the British government, or sometimes not. His small amount of success on the social, economic, and education fields, was not really helped decreasing discontent of Egyptians over British Occupation
