Abstract

Year 2020, , 157 - 171, 31.01.2020

Abstract

Although the concept of entrepreneurship generally suggests commercial activities today the concept of social entrepreneurship comes to the forefront. Social entrepreneurship aims at achieving permanent change and it is distinguished from philanthropy. Public institutions, private institutions and individuals can act as social entrepreneurs in various fields. Social entrepreneurship examples are frequently seen in the areas of struggle against poverty, environmental problems, artistic and sporting activities.

The main goal in social entrepreneurship is to create social value and make it sustainable. There are some economic, social, legal or structural barriers to this sustainability. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the obstacles to social entrepreneurship and the sub-criteria that constitute them, and to determine the more important criteria than the others. In this study, Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to determine the importance of the obstacles that may take place against social entrepreneurship. The factors related to the sustainability of social entrepreneurship are evaluated under four headings. These are the factors related to management, factors related to resource and expertise, factors related to government support and policies and factors related to partners. As a result of the study, management-related criteria were found to have a higher value than the others.
