Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of telecommuting level on presenteeism. In the study, the effects of telecommuting dimensions such as work-life conflict, effectiveness/efficiency, organizational trust and flexibility on presenteeism were evaluated. Data were collected electronically from 381 academic and administrative staff working at public and foundation universities in Kayseri. Confirmatory factor analysis and regression analysis methods were used to analyze the data. The analysis revealed that work-life conflict and flexibility have positive and significant effects on presenteeism. On the other hand, organizational trust was found to be a factor reducing presenteeism. The effectiveness/efficiency dimension was found to have no significant effect on presenteeism. The findings provide important insights for understanding the complex effects of teleworking on employees' physical and mental states. This study enriches the literature by contributing to the limited number of studies focusing on the relationship between telecommuting and presenteeism. The research findings are expected to help managers make telework policies more effective and develop strategies to increase employees' work productivity. In addition, it is anticipated that it will guide new studies addressing the opportunities and challenges of teleworking in the organizational context.
