Ozone Therapy and Its Effect on Cervical - Lumbar Disc Herniation

Abstract

Ozone consists of three oxygen atoms and is a colorless gas that is heavier than air with a pungent smell. Medical ozone is administered to the patient always in the form of a mixture of pure oxygen and pure ozone and in a certain concentration. The ozone gas, which can be used in many types of diseases, is preferred as its side effects are at minimal rate. There are different forms of medical ozone application. Cervical and lumbar pains are located in the first row of the reasons for applying to the clinics at daily practice. Lumbar and cervical disc herniation is one of the main causes of this pain. Ozone therapy is a complementary treatment which can be used along with conventional and surgical treatment for disc herniation. Ozone therapy allows a successful treatment for patients with cervical and lumbar pain due to its ease of implementation, high success rate in treatment and low side effect profile. Considering the negative effects of cervical and lumbar pain on quality of life and their prevalence in society, ozone therapy has an important place as an adjunctive therapy method to medical treatment, physical therapy and surgical treatment.

Ozon Tedavisi ve Servikal - Lomber Disk Hernileri Üzerine Etkisi

Abstract

Ozon, üç oksijen atomundan oluşan, keskin kokulu, havadan ağır renksiz bir gazdır. Medikal ozon ise hastaya daima saf ozon ve saf oksijenin karışımı şeklinde belli konsantrasyonlarda uygulanır. Pek çok hastalık türünde kullanılan ozon gazı, yan etkilerinin minimal oranda olması nedeniyle tercih sebebidir. Farklı medikal ozon uygulama şekilleri bulunmaktadır. Bel ve boyun ağrıları ise günlük pratikte polikliniğe başvuru nedenlerinin ilk sıralarında yer almaktadır. Lomber ve servikal disk hernileri bu ağrıların başlıca nedenlerinden biridir. Disk hernilerinde ozon tedavisi,  klasik tedavi ve cerrahi tedavi ile beraber kullanılabilen tamamlayıcı bir tedavi yöntemidir. Ozon tedavisi, uygulama kolaylığı, tedavideki başarı oranları, düşük yan etki profili sayesinde ağrılı bel ve boyun hastalarında başarılı bir tedaviye yardımcı olur. Disk hernileri sonucu ortaya çıkan bel ve boyun ağrılarının yaşam kalitesini oldukça kötü yönde etkilediği ve toplumdaki sıklığı göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, medikal tedavi, fizik tedavi ve cerrahi tedaviye yardımcı bir yöntem olarak ozon tedavisi önemli bir yer tutmaktadır.
