The Evaluation of Lipoprotein Related Phospholipase A2 as a Target of Therapy in Occupational Lead Exposure

Year 2013, Volume: 13 Issue: 2, 66 - 70, 11.03.2014

Abstract

Purpose: Cardiovascular risk is known to be increased in lead-exposed workers, but there is no consensus about its mechanism. In this study, our aim is to evaluate the efficiency of using the lipoprotein and lipid parameters, which have been proposed as a risk factor and lipoprotein associated Phopholipase A2, which has been proposed as a potential atherosclerosis biomarker in recent years, as cardiac biomarkers in occupational lead exposure.Materials and Methods: Twenty-four workers, who have been exposed to lead occupationally and 24 healthy subjects were included in the study. Plasma atherogenic indexes were calculated with the analysis of the total HDL, LDL, non-HDL cholesterol, triglyceride. Groups were compared with the analysis of LP-PLA2.Findings: No statistically significant differences between the lipid parameters have been found among the two groups. LP-PLA2 levels were found to be higher in lead exposed workers, statistically. There was a meaningful correlation between LP-PLA2 and non-HDL cholesterol levels. Results: LP-PLA2 may be an important biomarker in the underlying mechanism of cardivascular diseases related to lead exposure. Supporting the study data with clinical cohort studies will provide the chance of using LP-PLA2 as a target of therapy in lead toxicity.

Lipoprotein İlişkili Fosfolipaz A2’nin Mesleki Kurşun Maruziyetinde Potansiyel Bir Kardiyak Belirteç Olarak Değerlendirilmesi

Year 2013, Volume: 13 Issue: 2, 66 - 70, 11.03.2014
