Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the relationship between problematic internet use and psychological well-being and assertiveness among university students.
Method: The study population of the research consisted of all associate and undergraduate students studying at Iğdır University in the 2018 2019 academic year (N = 5000), and the sample consisted of 539 people. Stratified sample selection method was used in sample selection. The layer weight was calculated as 0.107 with the n/N formula and the current students were recruited from 4 layers: Health, Science, Social and Vocational Schools. "General Information Form", "Problematic Internet Use Scale (PIAS"), "Psychological Well-Being Scale (PIOS)" and "Rathus Assertiveness Inventory" were used to collect data in the study. Descriptive statistical methods (mean, number, percentage) and correlation analysis test were used in data analysis.
Results: There was a negative relationship between problematic internet use and psychological well-being (r= -.117, p<0.05), a negative relationship between PSQ and assertiveness (r= -.094, p<0.05), and a negative relationship between psychological well-being and assertiveness (r). =.100, p<0.05).
Conclusion: It was determined that the students' problematic internet use mean scores were high, while their psychological well-being and assertiveness mean scores were low. However, it may be important to provide educational programs that include reducing students' problematic internet use and increasing their levels of assertiveness and psychological well-being.
