Yetişkin Bireylerde Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı ile Sosyal Kaygı, Benlik Saygısı ve Yaşam Doyumu Arasındaki İlişkiler

Abstract

Amaç: Çalışmanın
amacı yetişkin bireylerde sosyal görünüş kaygısı ile sosyal kaygı, benlik
saygısı ve yaşam doyumu arasındaki ilişkileri araştırmaktır.

Yöntem: Çalışmanın örneklemi kolayda örnekleme
yöntemiyle ulaşılan yaşları 18 ile 60 arasında değişen 300 bireyden (%69 kadın,
%31 erkek) oluşmuştur. Katılımcıların yaş ortalaması 28.63’dür (SS= 9.10).
Katılımcılara Demografik Bilgi Formu, Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı Ölçeği, Liebowitz
Sosyal Kaygı Ölçeği, İki Boyutlu Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği (Kendini Sevme ve
Öz-Yeterlik Ölçeği) ve Yetişkin Yaşam Doyumu Ölçeği uygulanmıştır.

Bulgular: Katılımcıların
cinsiyetine göre Sosyal Görünüş Kaygısı Ölçeği puanları arasında anlamlı
farklılık bulunmamıştır. Sosyal görünüş kaygısı ile sosyal kaygı arasında
pozitif ve anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Sosyal görünüş kaygısı ile benlik
saygısı ve yaşam doyumu arasında negatif yönde ve anlamlı bir ilişki
saptanmıştır.

Sonuç: Çalışmanın bulguları yetişkin bireylerde sosyal
görünüş kaygısının yüksek olmasının sosyal kaygının yüksek, benlik saygısının
ve yaşam doyumunun düşük olması ile ilişkili olduğunu göstermiştir. Bulgular
alanyazın ışığında tartışılmıştır.

The Relationships Between Social Appearance Anxiety and Social Anxiety, Self-Esteem and Life Satisfaction in Adults

Abstract

Objective: The objective of the
study is to examine the relationships between social appearance anxiety and
social anxiety, self-esteem and life satisfaction in adults.

Methods:
The sampling of the study consists of 300
individuals (69% female, 31% male) ranging between 18 and 60 years of age who
were reached with convenience sampling method. The average age of the
participants is 28.63 (SD= 9.10).  The
participants were applied Demographic Information Form, Social Appearance
Anxiety Scale, Leibowitz Social Anxiety Scale, Self-Liking/Self-Competence
Scale and Adults Life Satisfaction Scale.

Results: No significant difference was found according to the
gender of participants in their scores from Social Appearance Anxiety Scale. A
positive and significant relationship was found between social appearance
anxiety and social anxiety. A negative and significant relationship was found in
social appearance anxiety and self-esteem and life satisfaction.

Conclusion: The findings of the study have indicated that the
high social appearance anxiety in adults is related to the high social anxiety
and low self-esteem and life satisfaction. The findings have been discussed in
view of the literature.
