Abstract

Abstract

Backround: Recently, studies support that the lack of vitamin D deficiency may play a role in the pathogenesis of many diseases such as alzheimer, Parkinson, multiple sclerosis, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the relationship between vitamin D levels and serum endocan and ADMA levels, which are accepted as cardiovascular early risk markers, by determining vitamin D levels in patients without known chronic disease history in our study.

Material and Method: According to Vitamin D levels, we divided patients into two groups as; Vitamin D <10 ng/ml (Group 1) ve vitamin D level > 30 ng/ml (Group 2) to investigate. Levels of BMI, serum Vitamin D, Endocan, ADMA of the groups were compared.

Results: The results of a total of 77 patients included in the study were compared. There was no significant difference in age, gender and BMI between the two groups (p: 0.67, p: 0.69, p: 0.052, respectively). Serum ADMA levels were determined as 104.5 ± 44 μmol / L in group 1 and 90.42 ± 29 μmol / L in group 2 (p: 0.31). Endocan levels were 549.5 ± 245 ng / L in group 1 and 465.99 ± 207 ng / L in group 2 (p: 0.12). There was a significant negative correlation between vitamin D levels and endocan levels (r: -0.26 p: 0.02).

Conclusion: In this study which we examined serum endocan and ADMA levels from endothelial dysfunction indicators to assess cardiovascular risk, we did not find a significant change in patients with low vitamin D levels. Based on these parameters, we can say that only vitamin D deficiency has no effect on endothelial dysfunction.
