Abstract

Galactorrhea Development During Isotretinoin Treatment: Is It a Novel Side Effect?

Year 2021, Volume: 26 Issue: 1, 118 - 121, 30.01.2021

Abstract

Isotretinoin is a synthetic retinoic acid used in the treatment of resistant acne. Although isotretinoin is very effective in the treatment of acne vulgaris, it has been associated with various adverse effects. An 18-year-old female patient with isotretinoin treatment at the dose of 40 mg/day due to acne vulgaris, the complaint of milk discharge was evaluated as galactorrhea in the second month of treatment. It was learned that she had no other illness and did not take any medication. Laboratory and imaging studies were found to be normal examined for etiological cause. We found only one case reports of galactorrhea associated with the use of isotretinoin in the literature. This article presents a case study of galactorrhea without hyperprolactinemia in a woman being treated with isotretinoin.
