In Birgi’s Kurt Gazi section is a mosque which is distinguished from thc surrounding houses in gardcns by its minarct. Knovvn as the Mosque of the Squat Minaret (Güdük or Kütük Minare Camisi), the building is prescntly in quite a dilapidatcd State1 (Fig. i). Having bccn built on sloping land, thc mosque is a singlc storcy structure on thc Street side but appears to be of two storeys when viewed from thc gardens down thc slopc.
The domed main hail, with the portico (son cemaat mahalli) to the VVcst and the minaret to thc Nortlı, has a simple setting2.
