Ethical Principles and Publication Policy

Anadolu Anatolia Journal – Publication Ethics, Author Responsibilities, Copyright, Funding, Data Protection, and Article Withdrawal Policy

Anadolu Anatolia Journal adopts the policies and follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), which is recognized as an international standard for publication ethics in the context of the responsibilities of Authors, Reviewers, Editors, Publishers, and Readers in all conducted processes.

1. Research and Ethical Compliance
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research adheres to internationally recognised standards of research integrity and publication ethics. Studies involving archaeological fieldwork, excavation permits, surveys, laboratory analyses, cultural heritage materials, or human and animal remains must comply with relevant legal regulations and ethical frameworks. Where required, authors must obtain approval from the appropriate Ethics Committee or authorised institution and upload the relevant documentation via the DergiPark submission system.

Any financial support, sponsorship, or institutional funding received during the research process must be clearly disclosed within the manuscript. Authors must also submit a declaration of any actual or potential conflicts of interest via the DergiPark system.

Authors are expected to ensure the accuracy and reliability of all data presented, including stratigraphic interpretations, contextual associations, and material analyses. Should significant errors, ethical breaches, or inaccuracies be identified before or after publication, authors are obliged to cooperate fully with the editorial board to correct or withdraw the manuscript as necessary.

2. Authorship and Contributions
Individuals listed as authors must have made a substantial intellectual contribution to the work, including the conception and design of the study, data collection and interpretation, data analysis, or drafting and revising the manuscript. All co-authors must review and approve the final submitted version and are collectively accountable for the content of the work.

The corresponding author serves as the primary point of contact with the journal editors on behalf of all authors. Responsibilities include managing revisions and proofreading, resubmitting the manuscript within the specified deadlines, and confirming, on behalf of all co-authors, that the manuscript complies with the journal’s ethical, copyright, and publication guidelines. The corresponding author is also responsible for addressing any post-publication queries, including matters related to permissions for reproduction, data availability, or ethical considerations.

Authorship cannot be changed after the initial submission except through a formal written request providing a clear justification for the proposed change. For multi-authored manuscripts, the specific contributions of each author must be clearly stated at the end of the manuscript.

Anadolu Anatolia aims to present original studies to the world of science. Articles must be original scientific research. Author(s) submitting their work to the journal are deemed to have accepted that the manuscript in question has not been published elsewhere before or has not been sent elsewhere for publication. Authors accept that they comply with research and publication ethics. Author(s) must submit Ethical Committee Permission for studies requiring ethical approval and add it to the Dergipark article upload system. If the author(s) received financial support for their research during the research process, they must state this support in the article text. In studies with multiple authors, authors must submit a contribution statement. If detected, the author(s) are obliged to withdraw and correct the erroneous article. Authors must submit a conflict of interest statement and add it to the Dergipark article upload system. Articles that do not comply with the journal principles will not be accepted. Articles that successfully pass the preliminary evaluation and plagiarism audit are sent to at least two reviewers for the peer-review process.

3. Editorial and Peer-Review Process

Manuscripts that do not conform to the journal’s editorial policies and ethical principles will not be considered for publication. Submissions that pass the initial editorial assessment and plagiarism screening are forwarded to at least two independent reviewers for evaluation within a double-blind peer-review process.

Reviews must be conducted objectively and respectfully. Comments containing inappropriate, aggressive, or personal remarks about authors will not be considered. Reviewers are required to declare any actual, perceived, or potential conflicts of interest prior to undertaking a review.

Anadolu Anatolia Journal operates a double-blind peer-review system according to the best ethical standards without bias and takes into account COPE’s guidelines for peer reviewers as specified in the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers. Reviewers are expected to complete their reviews within the time allocated to them. We respect the confidentiality of our reviewers and expect authors and reviewers to comply with the same confidentiality. Reviewers are expected to report using unbiased and respectful language. Comments containing aggressive language or personal opinions about the authors will not be considered. A reviewer must inform the editors about any existing or potential conflict of interest regarding the subject before starting to review the submission.

4. Plagiarism and Academic Integrity

Plagiarism is defined as the use of the work of others—including ideas, data, text, images, or any other media—without proper acknowledgment or, where applicable, without obtaining the necessary permissions. This definition also encompasses self-plagiarism, in which authors reproduce their own previously published work without appropriate citation or permission.

Manuscripts containing plagiarised material will be rejected outright. After publication, any concerns regarding plagiarism may be raised with the editors, who will assess the matter and determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with the journal’s ethical policies.

5. Copyright and Licensing
All original articles published in Anadolu Anatolia Journal are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) license. This license permits third parties to copy, distribute, and build upon the published articles and associated visuals, provided that proper attribution is given to the original authors. Derivative works may also be created, with appropriate credit to the original author(s). For further details, see: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/.

Copyright for all articles remains with the respective authors under the CC BY-NC 4.0 license. Authors are solely responsible for the content of their published works and for ensuring that all rights and permissions are appropriately managed. By submitting and agreeing to publish in the journal, authors confirm their acceptance of these copyright terms.

PDF copies of published articles may be shared by the authors in their institutional repositories, on other scholarly platforms, or via social media accounts, in accordance with the journal’s open access policy. Anadolu Anatolia Journal claims no ownership over the published content and does not pursue any commercial interest in the authors’ works.

6. Funding:
Authors must declare all funding received for the completion of the work presented in the publication, including grant numbers where appropriate. This ensures transparency and allows readers to identify potential influences on the research.

7. Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Anadolu Anatolia Journal places great importance on ethical principles, academic integrity, and transparency in scholarly publishing. Accordingly, the use of AI-assisted tools is subject to the principles and limitations outlined in the AI Usage Declaration Form established by the journal.

Authors are required to clearly disclose the nature and extent of any AI tools employed in the preparation of their manuscript. Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, reliability, and originality of content, data, or images generated or assisted by AI. Any use of AI-generated material must comply with appropriate attribution and ethical standards.

The journal reserves the right to take corrective action, including rejection or withdrawal of manuscripts, should AI usage be found to contravene ethical guidelines.

8. Article Withdrawal Policy
Anadolu Anatolia Journal, which publishes original research articles, may conduct investigations if concerns arise regarding unethical practices or copyright violations in manuscripts under review or already published. Any investigation is conducted in accordance with COPE’s guidelines on article withdrawal.

If an author requests the withdrawal of a manuscript—whether it is under review, accepted after peer review, or already published—the journal’s Editorial Board will promptly process the request. To initiate the withdrawal, all authors must submit a formal written statement signed by each author and send it to the journal’s official email address (anatolia@ankara.edu.tr).

This process is conducted in accordance with COPE’s Code of Conduct for Peer Reviewers and Ethical Guidelines. Authors are reminded that submitting the same work to another journal before the withdrawal process is complete is considered an unethical practice and will not be tolerated.

9. Protection of Personal Data
In all studies evaluated by Anadolu Anatolia Journal, personal data relating to identifiable individuals are protected under the Law on the Protection of Personal Data (Law No. 6698). No information pertaining to authors will be shared with third parties or institutions.
