The Effect of Teaching Special Quadrilaterals with the REACT Strategy of Contextual Learning and Teaching Method on the Academic Achievement 10th-Grade Vocational High School Students

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to determine the academic achievement of the students and the permanency of the knowledge by using the REACT strategy of the contextual learning and teaching method in teaching the subject of special quadrilaterals in vocational high schools. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design with a control group in which pre-test and post-test were applied. The research was conducted with 85 students studying in the 10th grade of the Map-Land Registry-Cadastre department of two vocational high schools in the country in the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. Experimental and control groups were determined according to the results of the equalization test applied to the classes. The implementation part of the study was completed in six weeks. Six weeks after the end of the study, the permanency test was applied to both the experimental and control groups. Dependent groups t-test, independent groups t-test, and repeated measures ANOVA test were used to analyze the data obtained to reveal the scope of the research problem. As a result of the analysis, the mean academic achievement and permanency test scores of the experimental group students, in which the special quadrilaterals subject was taught using the REACT strategy of the contextual learning and teaching method, showed a significant difference compared to the control group. Some suggestions were made according to the results obtained.
