Investigation Effects of Body Perception and Sense of Meaning of Life on Attitudes Towards Old Age of University Students

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of body perception and meaning of life and on the attitudes of university students about old age. The study was carried out on 278 university students who were selected randomly (18-29 ages). Demographic information was asked to live with a family member over the age of 60, to live with the family and the other option,information level about elderly, physical condition and activity of the elderly. According to the results of the correlation analysis, a statistically significant relation was found between scores of young people’s body perception and scores of their attitude towards the elderly. Moreover,scores of young people’s attitude towards old ages differ according to their information level about elderly.

Üniversite Öğrencilerinin Beden Algısı ve Yaşamda Anlam Duygularının Yaşlılığa İlişkin Tutumları Üzerine Etkilerinin İncelenmesi

Öz

Bu araştırma gençlerin beden algıları ve hayatın anlamına dair algıları ile yaşlılara dair tutumları arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemek amacıyla gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma tesadüfi örneklem metodu ile seçilen yaşları 18 ile 29 arasında 278 üniversite öğrencisi ile yapılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin yaşlılara dair tutumlarının, cinsiyete, aile tiplerine, bir yaşlı yakınları ile aynı evi paylaşmış olup olmamalarına, yaşlılık dönemine dair bilgi düzeylerine, yaşlı yakınları ile görüşme sıklıklarına, yaşlı yakınlarının fiziksel görünüşlerinin iyi olup olmamasına ve aktif bir iş ya da hobi gibi bir uğraşlarının olup olmasına göre değişip değişmediği incelenmiştir.Yapılan t-testi, varyans ve korelasyon analizleri sonucunda öğrencilerin beden algıları ile yaşlılara dair tutumları arasında pozitif yönlü istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Ayrıca gençlerin yaşlılık dönemine dair bilgi düzeylerinin yaşlılara dair tutumlarını farklılaştırdığı tespit edilmiştir.
