Public Attitudes towards Turkey's Security Policies: A Case Study of Bitlis Province

Abstract

This study aims to examine the attitudes of individuals living in the Bitlis province towards Turkey's security policies. The research investigates how these policies are shaped and evaluated in the context of economic, political, and social factors. The data collection process of the study was approved by the Ethics Committee of X University, with the application dated 29.03.2024 and approval number 130920, before the research commenced. In this context, in-depth interviews were conducted with 20 participants using a qualitative research method. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using the content analysis method via Maxqda 2020 Pro, a qualitative data analysis softwar. The findings show that participants have varying levels of knowledge about security policies and hold different views on these policies. Economic stability, political confidence, and social support are critical for the effectiveness and sustainability of these policies. This study highlights the need for a multi-dimensional approach to the success of security policies and emphasizes the importance of considering these elements in future policy designs. The findings of the research are consistent with similar studies in the literature, once again revealing that the feasibility of security policies depends on factors such as economic and social costs, political stability, and social support. It is recommended to adopt more comprehensive and holistic approaches to enhance the success of security policies.

Türkiye’nin Güvenlik Politikalarına Yönelik Kamuoyunun Tutumu: Bitlis İli Örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışma, Bitlis ilinde yaşayan bireylerin Türkiye'nin güvenlik politikalarına yönelik tutumlarını incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Araştırmada, bu politikaların ekonomik, siyasi ve toplumsal faktörlerle nasıl şekillendiği ve değerlendirildiği incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın veri toplama süreci gerçekleştirilmeden önce X Üniversitesi Etik Kurul Komisyonuna başvuruda bulunularak 29.03.2024 tarih ve 130920 sayı numarasıyla onay alınmıştır. Bu kapsamda, nitel araştırma yöntemi kullanılarak 20 katılımcıyla derinlemesine görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Görüşmelerden elde edilen veriler, içerik analizi yöntemiyle Maxqda 2020 Pro nitel veri analiz programı aracılığıyla analiz edilmiştir. Bulgular, katılımcıların güvenlik politikaları hakkında çeşitli bilgi seviyelerine sahip olduğunu ve bu politikalara yönelik farklı görüşler taşıdıklarını göstermektedir. Ekonomik istikrar, siyasi güven ve toplumsal destek, politikaların etkinliği ve sürdürülebilirliği açısından kritik öneme sahiptir. Bu çalışma, güvenlik politikalarının başarısının çok boyutlu bir yaklaşımla ele alınması gerektiğini ve gelecekteki politika tasarımlarında bu unsurların dikkate alınmasının önemini vurgulamaktadır. Araştırmanın bulguları, literatürde yer alan benzer çalışmalarla uyumlu olup, güvenlik politikalarının uygulanabilirliğinin ekonomik ve sosyal maliyetler, siyasi istikrar ve toplumsal destek gibi faktörlere bağlı olduğunu bir kez daha gözler önüne sermektedir. Güvenlik politikalarının başarısının artırılması için daha kapsamlı ve bütüncül yaklaşımların benimsenmesi önerilmektedir.
