Abstract

Hypoestes Hypoestes sanguinolenta were planted in PVC pots filled with perlite and irrigated with nutrient solutions of variable potassium contents. The height, fresh and dry weights and mineral composition of top and root and nutrient uptake were evaluated. The results obtained showed that increase of the K level in the nutrient solution up to 100 ppm increased the height of top and root, and growth. Above this level, they were affected adversely. Mineral composition of plants showed similar tendency to that of growth. Top and root height showed approximately three-fold an one and a half fold increase over to the control at 100 ppm K level reaching from 15.9-to 43.4 cm and 16.1-to 24.3 cm respectively for top and root. Fresh and dry weights increased from 3.17 to 18.96; 0.49 to 2.49 g/pot for top and 1.92 to 6.19; 0.16 to 0.50 g/pot for root respectively at the same K rates. While uptake and contents of P with K uptuke by both top and root increased up to 100 ppm K level, each increment of K in nutrient solution resulted in increasing in K concentration.
