AGC total knee arthroplasty for treatment of gonarthrosis; short term results

Abstract

Fifty-eight knees of 54 patients (17 men, 37 women; mean age 64) with gonarthrosis were operated and AGC total knee arthroplasties with cement were applied in SSK Istanbul Hospital 2nd Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinics beginning from May 1991 to 1994. Average follow-up period was 19 months (6-39 months). Patellar component was not used for nine patients. According to Knee Society Criteria results of operations were evaluated as excellent for 37 patients (64 %), good for 15 patients (26 %),fair for one patient (2 %), poor for 5 patients (8 %). Results we obtained from our series showed us that especially, for elderly patients for whom physical rehabilitation program is unsatisfactory, total knee joint arthroplasty should be the choice of treatment.
