The results of the surgical treatment of patellar fractures

Abstract

67 patients with patella fractures were treated operatively at Orthopaedics and Traumatology in Haydarpaşa Numune State Hospital, Istanbul, between 1989 and 1993. 27 patients whose Iast controls could be done are included in this study. The average age of the patients were 39 (between 18-75) years. Of them 15 were male and 12 were female. Our mean follow-up time was 14 months (between 4-36 months). 2 of our patients were treated by Magnuson technique, 8 patients with standard AO tension band wiring anterior to the patella and other 17 patients were treated by modified tension band wiring techniques. The results were evaluated clinically and radiologically. According to Levack et all s criteria, the results were good in 15, fair in 8 and poor in 4 patients. The outcomes of the patients who were rehabilitated were better.
