A case of osteopetrosis with cervikal and lumbar pains

Abstract

There has been reported above 200 cases in the world literature since Albers-Schönberg first described the disease in 1904. Osteopetrosis is a rare disease known with its hereditary character and a delay in the osteociastic activity. Thus the bone marrow and primary spongiosa is occupied with primary bone tissue and as a result of this fragility of the bones occur. Diffuse medullary bone formation decreases hematopoietic activity and anemia results. The prognosis of the disease of which the etiology and treatment is unknown is usually good in moderate and mild cases. The case we have studied is a young man with symptoms from mild to moderate degrees ana without any complications such as anemia, fractures and degeneration of the cranial nerves. Since two years he had pains of neurogenic origin due to the density of bone in cervical and lumbar vertebrae.

SERVİKAL VE LOMBER AĞRILARI OLAN BİR OSTEOPETROZİS VAK'ASI

Abstract

Albers-Schönberg'in 1904 de hastalığı tarifinden beri dünya literatüründe 200'ü aşan vak'a tebliği vardır. Herediter karakter gösteren, nadir bir hastalık olan osteopetrosis de osteokiastik faaliyette bir gecikme vardır. Bu yüzden kemik iliği ve sponjiöz kemik dokusu primer kemikle istila edilmekte normal kemik yapısının bozulması neticesi kemikler frajil bir hale gelmektedir. Yaygın meduller kemikleşme hemopoetik faaliyeti azaltmakta ve anemiye sebep olmaktadır. Etyolojisi ve tedavisi bilinmiyen bu hastalığın prognozu orta ve hafif vak'alarda oldukça iyidir. Bizim vak'amız genç bir erkek olup hafif, orta vak'a grubundandır. Anemi, fraktür ve kafa çiftleri dejenerasyonu gibi komplikasyonları yoktur. İki yıldan beri servikal ve lomber vertebralarda kemik yoğunlaşmasına bağlı nörolojik orijinli ağrıları mevcuttur.
