Chondrogenic potential of free intraarticular autografts of periosteum in Guinea pigs

Year 1989, Volume: 23 Issue: 4, 212 - 215, 11.09.2006

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the chondrogenic potential of free intraarticular autografts of periosteum under the influence of active motion in guinea pigs. A graft of periosteum was taken from the tibia and folded back on it self so that the cambium layer faced outward on both sides. The folded graft was transplanted as a free body in to each corresponding knee joint in adult male guinea pigs. The animals were then allowed to their daily activities. 6 weeks postoperatively the grafts had taken on the appearence of normal articular cartilage and had become contoured to the apposing femoral condyles with which they were articulating. Histological examination revealed neochondrogenesis, in all of the grafts. Cartilage was the predominant tissue in 77% of the grafts. This investigation demonstrated the chondrogenic potential of free intraaticular periosteal autografts under the influence of active motion in quinea pigs.

Kobaylarda intraartiküler serbest periost otogreftlerinin kondrojenik potansiyeli

Year 1989, Volume: 23 Issue: 4, 212 - 215, 11.09.2006
