Abstract
The aim of this study is to evaluate the opinions of nursing students about forensic nursing. This descriptive study was conducted between 1-17 April 2023. The population of the research consisted of 446 students studying in the nursing department of a university. The number of students to be sampled was determined as 207 people using the random sampling method at the 95% confidence interval with the known formula. A form containing the personal characteristics of the students and their knowledge and opinions about forensic nursing was used to collect the data. Data were evaluated with descriptive statistics and percentage calculations in the IBM SPSS 21.0 statistical program. It was determined that the mean age of the students was 21,47±1,31, 50,7% were female and 44,4% were 4th grade students. It was determined that 68.1% of the students have not encountered a forensic case before, 93,7% did not have a relative who was a forensic nurse, 52,7% did not hear the concept of forensic nursing before. As a result, it was determined that more than half of the nursing students did not hear the concept of forensic nursing and did not encounter a forensic case, but they wanted to receive and practice forensic nursing education. According to the students, the increase in the number of forensic cases increases the need for forensic nursing. According to these results, it is suggested that forensic nursing course should be included in the nursing curriculum.
