Abstract

Abstract

Communication can be defined as the process of transferring knowledge from one individual to another and mutual understanding. As in all business areas, it can be stated that one of the most important conditions for success in the construction industry is the establishment of an effective and efficient communication system. In this framework, many stakeholders from different areas of expertise are involved in the production process of construction projects, and the success of the project depends on the harmonious work of all stakeholders. The inclusion of an effective and efficient communication system in this process is of great importance for any building project, facilitating the coordination and harmonious work of stakeholders. Within the scope of the research, it is aimed to determine the level of communication for small-scale projects in a small city, with the prediction that the level of communication will inevitably be higher in large-scale projects. The research was conducted in Kütahya, which is a small city where mostly small-scale projects are carried. The data collection process was completed with the help of interviews, observations, and questionnaires among the stakeholders of three housing projects. Within the scope of this study, the communication tools used in the construction industry, the contribution of the construction team to communication at various stages of the construction work, and the effectiveness of the communication tools on the construction project performance were evaluated. According to the results obtained, the main communication subject is the project briefing, and they prefer face-to-face meetings as communication subjects, where intensive communication is carried out between the stakeholders at all levels, especially for making plans.
