DENDROCHRONOLOGY of ABIES NORDMANNIANA (STEV.) SPACH. SUBSP. NORDMANNIANA IN THE ÖRÜMCEK FORESTS IN KÜRTÜN-GÜMÜSHANE
Abstract
Abies nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach. subsp. nordmanniana is an important forest tree species of Eastern Blacksea Region of Turkey. This study has attempted to describe the variations of annual growth of Abies nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach. subsp. nordmanniana and to give mean annual ring curve by using annual rings. Another purpose of this study is to find out the standardized chronology in wood of Abies nordmanniana (Stev.) Spach. subsp. nordmanniana. At the same time, this study can be helpful for estimating past climatic data and to provide some valuable information for dendroclimatologycal studies by using the meteorologycal records. The study area is located in East Blacksea region of Turkey. It is in border of the city Kürtün/Gümüshane. It was taken 12 cores from total 6 trees. The rings widths have been measured by using Zeiss Winkel misroscope, which is 0.01 mm. sensitivity. For obtaining the annual ring curves has been used two methods, the former is to be shown of the annual rings as semi-logarithmic, the later is to be shown graphically of the indices obtained from annual rings as called standardization method. Indices have been found according to equation formula seen as below:
It=Wt/Yt
It : Indices of the ring widths
Yt : Expected annual growth (from the regression equation)
Wt : Measured annual ring widths
It covers the time span of 1729-2003.
