A Study on the Relationship of the Arabian Nights With Children’s Literature

Abstract

The study was conducted to reveal the relationship between the Arabian Nights and children's literature. In this context, general information about the Arabian Nights was given and the aspect of the tales regarding children's literature was emphasized. Then, it was revealed whether the Arabian Nights provided the principles of appropriateness for children in terms of content and education. Since it was seen that some children's books prepared based on the Arabian Nights were prepared for commercial purposes without considering the principles of appropriateness for children, it is thought that the study conducted will eliminate an important deficiency in this area. Thus, it is aimed that this study will contribute to the preparation of the Arabian Nights to be presented to children from now on by taking certain criteria into consideration. The study includes fairy tales within book of “Arapça Kaynaklardan Binbir Gece Masalları ve Türk Masallarına Tesiri”. This is a scientific study prepared with academic care. In the study, document review based on qualitative research and then content analysis were used. As a result of the review, it was concluded that The Arabian Nights (Thousand and One Night) has the principles of suitability for children in terms of content and education, and therefore can be used within the scope of children's literature.
