Material development is accepted as a specific field of study in foreign language teaching from 1990s. The field of material development aims to design, apply and evaluate new materials by studying on language teaching approaches and the principles. It plays an important role in second language acquisition and foreign language teaching processes as material development, material adaptation and material evaluation. With the development of the field of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in recent years, a large number of teaching materaials have designed, in which four language skills are targeted separately and according to different learning objectives. Reading textbooks has improved dramatically in recent years but selecting appropriate textbook has become more difficult for teachers. The aim of this study is to reveal and evaluate the reading-comprehension textbooks used in teaching Chinese as a foreign language through the reading comprehension textbook evaluation checklist, and to guide teachers in the use of Chinese teaching materials. Selecting a teaching material is not an easy task, this study will help to make it a little easier for teachers. In this study, document analysis technique, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. Three different checklist were created from the Cunningworth (1984) and Meikley (2005) reading comprehension textbook evaluation criteria in order to evaluate the Chinese reading comprehension textbooks. These three checklist contain general evaluation, the types of activities used in the books and text genre. According to the results of the evaluation, it was determined that the five books prepared for different reading purposes consist mostly of informative texts in terms of text genre and pre-reading activities are quite low (Table 3 and 5).
