Abstract
Although there are different opinions about the history of Mother's Day, the important point in this regard is when Mother's Day was officially accepted and celebrated for the first time. Different ideas have been offered about this special day over time, and in general, the possibilities have been focused on. At this point, one of the important points to be considered, perhaps the most important one, is the official proof of this issue. For this reason, it would be more appropriate to start the beginning of Mother's Day with Mother's Day celebrated in America. This is also true in terms of historical science. Mother's Day was officially accepted and celebrated in America for the first time and then spread to many countries.
Recognition and celebration of Mother's Day in Turkey is later than other countries at the time. The most important reason for this is the independence struggle of the Turkish people. In 1914, when Mother's Day was accepted in America, the Turkish nation was feeling the effects of the First World War closely. Therefore, acceptance and celebration of several special days were came after the war and the establishment of the Republic of Turkey.
Mother's Day came to the agenda of the Republic of Turkey in 1931. Selection of the Mother of the year and official celebration of the Day was in 1955 for the first time. Political and military developments in the international arena has played an important role in the selection and celebration. Therefore, it is not unintentional to select Nene Hatun as the Mother of the Year in Turkey for the first time.
In this study, the beginning of Mother's Day in America; the recognition of the day in Turkey and selection process of Mother's Day Mom of the Year were discussed.
