Abstract
Educational administrators and teachers undertake the most important responsibilities in transferring the service provided in schools, which are the basic building blocks of the education system, to the relevant parties. The behavior patterns, knowledge and skills of school administrators and teachers have great effects on students, education stakeholders, families and society. Educators are expected to have a number of competencies while fulfilling their roles in the execution of educational services. This research was conducted to examine the variables that affect school administrators and teachers’ competencies. It is thought that this study will contribute to the competencies of teachers and administrators, which are important for an effective and productive education. Qualitative research methods were used in the research. Content analysis and descriptive analysis techniques were used while analyzing data. The study group of the study consist a group of administrators and teachers working in the schools in Mamak district in the center of Ankara. Total 29 voluntarily educationalist participated in the research. The semi-structured interview forms developed by the researcher were applied to 15 administrators and 14 teachers working in the state schools in Mamak district center of Ankara. According to the results of the research, it is expected that the competencies of the administrators and the principles of merit should be taken into account when choosing school administrators, that teachers should have innovative and effective communication skills with competencies related to their professional fields, that teachers want the Ministry of National Education to organize in-service trainings, that the development of school principals' competencies is ensured. It was determined that they demanded training activities such as courses and seminars to be carried out.
