Different Statistical Approaches in Leisure Studies: BAYES Theorem

Abstract

It is seen that the classical frequency approach is widely used in quantitative leisure studies. On the other hand, Bayes’ theorem, as a different paradigm, is not sufficiently evaluated in the recreation field. Today, the development of computer technology has facilitated the inclusion of Bayesian statistics in softwares. In this study, how “to know” and “introjected” motivations, which are variables of leisure motivation, vary according to gender and employement status within the scope of Bayesian and frequentist statistics was examined by independent samples t-test. The use of the Bayesian approach in quantitative research in addition to the classical approach will strengthen the conclusions to be drawn from the research in our field.

Boş Zaman Çalışmalarında Farklı İstatistiksel Yaklaşımlar: BAYES Teoremi

Öz

Nicel boş zaman çalışmalarında klasik frekanscı yaklaşım çok yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Öte yandan, farklı bir paradigma olarak Bayes teoreminin alanımızdaki çalışmalarda yeterince yer almadığı görülmektedir. Günümüzde bilgisayar teknolojisinin gelişmesi Bayesyan istatistiklerinin yazılımlarda yer almasını kolaylaş- tırmıştır. Bu çalışmada boş zaman motivasyonunun değişkenlerinden içselleştirme ve bilmenin Bayesci ve frekanscı istatistik kapsamında cinsiyete ve çalışma durumuna göre nasıl değişkenlik gösterdiği bağımsız örneklemler t testi ile incelenmiştir. Bayesci yaklaşımın klasik yaklaşıma ek olarak nicel araştırmalarda kullanılması, alanımızdaki araştırmalardan elde edilecek çıkarımları güçlendirebilecektir.
