From the screen to the field : The influence of film on tourism and recreation

Abstract

Seyahat yazıları, öyküler, şiir ve sanat, insanların boş zaman, rekreasyon ve turizm aktivitesi seçiminde etkili olmuştur. Eski İngiliz Turizm Otoritesi'nin Burns Country ve Bronte Country promosyonundan, Avustralya'nın Crocodile Dundee'den faydalanmasına kadar açık hava rekreasyonu, yalnızca 'seyreden' olmaktan, aktif olarak yer almaya doğru gelişim göstermiştir. 21. yüzyılda, bölgelerle güçlü duygusal bağlar kuran ve ziyaretçilerin ve rekreatif turistlerin deneyimlemek veya taklit etmek isteyecekleri birtakım faaliyetleri gözler önüne seren kurgu filmler (sinema ve televizyon dizileri), popüler medyanın en etkileyici biçimi olarak edebiyatın yerini aldı. Örneğin, 1988 Avustralya yapımı bir sinema filmi olan The Man from Snowy River, ticari safari etkinliklerini, rekreasyonel kırsal at biniciliğinde bir artışı, filmde gösterilen becerilerin ortaya konulduğu yarı profesyonel kırsal yarış pistlerini ve Dağ Çobanları Derneği'ne ilk kez kentli üyelerin katılımını da kapsamak üzere maceraperest bir at biniciliği sektörünün oluşmasına yol açtı. Bu denli güçlü örneklere karşın gerek sinema gerekse televizyon filmi henüz yeterince incelenmemiş bir olgudur. Ancak film, ekonomik, sosyal ve doğal çevremiz üzerinde olumlu etkilerin yanısıra olumsuz etkilere de yol açabilecek pek çok boş zaman aktivitesi açısından son derece önemli bir güdüleyicidir. Bu unsurların birçoğunu ele alan bu çalışmada, dönüşlü, otoetnografik ve katılımcı-gözlem materyallerinden ve örnek incelemelerinden faydalanılmaktadır.
