Determination of Suitability Criteria Based on Ecological and User Experience for the Selection of ATV Trails

Abstract

In recent times, there has been an increasing demand for outdoor recreational activities. However, these activities pose a risk of harming natural ecosystems. Among these activities, ATV (All-Terrain Vehicle) trails can cause significant and sometimes irreversible damage to ecosystems. This study aims to determine the suitability of ATV trails in natural areas. To achieve this, geographic information systems (GIS) were used to identify natural environments that meet users’ expectations. Ecological criteria for ATV trails were established by considering environmental impacts and criteria obtained from similar studies. These criteria were used to determine the ecological suitability of ATV trails, balancing conservation and utilization. The weighted overlay method was employed to determine suitability, with input from an expert panel consisting of academicians from landscape architecture and tourism faculties who have experience with ATV use. As a result, a model was developed to determine the suitability of ATV trails that protect ecosystems, minimize environmental impacts, and meet user expectations. This model can aid in assessing the ecological suitability of ATV trails.

ATV Parkurlarının Yer Seçiminde Ekolojik ve Kullanıcı Deneyimine Dayalı Uygunluk Kriterlerinin Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Günümüzde açık alan rekreasyon aktivitelerine olan talep artmaktadır. Ancak bu aktiviteler, doğal alanlardaki ekosistemlere zarar verme riski taşımaktadır. ATV parkurları da bu aktivitelerden biri olmakla birlikte, ekosistemlere telafisi güç ya da imkânsız zararlar verebilmektedir. Bu çalışma, ATV parkurlarının doğal alanlarda uygunluğunu belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Bu amaçla, coğrafi bilgi sistemleri kullanılarak kullanıcıların beklentilerini karşılayan doğal ortamların belirlenmesi hedeflenmektedir. Çalışmada, çevresel etkiler ve benzer çalışmalardan elde edilen kriterler dikkate alınarak ATV parkurlarına ilişkin ekolojik kriterler belirlenmiştir. Bu kriterler, koruma ve kullanım dengesi gözetilerek ATV parkurlarının ekolojik uygunluğunu belirlemek için kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada, uygunlukların belirlenmesinde ağırlıklı çakıştırma yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Kriterlerin ağırlıklandırılmasında peyzaj mimarı bölümü ve turizm fakültesinde görev yapan ve ATV kullanımı deneyimine sahip akademisyenlerin dahil olduğu uzman paneline başvurulmuştur. Sonuç olarak, ekosistemi koruyarak, çevresel etkileri azaltan ve kullanıcıların beklentilerini karşılayan ATV parkurlarının uygunluğunu belirlemek için bir model geliştirilmiştir. Bu model, ekolojik açıdan ATV parkurlarının uygunluğunu değerlendirmede yardımcı olabilir.
