VİZİGOTLARIN HİSPANİA’DAKİ İŞGAL SÜRECİ VE BÖLGEDE İLK ETKİNLİKLERİ

Abstract

Vizigotların Hispania’yı işgal süreci uzun ve sancılı geçmiştir. İlk olarak MS 418 yılında I. Theoderik döneminde, Roma İmparatorluğu ile ortak harekatın bir sonucu olarak bölgede foederati olarak hak elde eden ve hala Toulouse merkezli olarak yönetilen Vizigot Krallığı, Euric döneminden itibaren bağımsız hareket etmeye başlayarak hem Galya’da hem de Hispania’da geniş topraklar elde etmeye başlamışlardır. Bu süreç içerisinde Vandalların Kuzey Afrika’ya geçişi ve Batı Roma’nın dağılması da Vizigotların işini kolaylaştırmış, Süeviler bölgenin kuzeybatısına hapsedilerek, Vizigotların Hispania’daki etkisi arttırılmıştır. Vizigolar, foederati olarak bölgede varlıklarını sürdürürken daha çok yalnızca toprağı işleyip vergisini ödeyen işçiler görünümündeydiler. Euric döneminde bölgenin işgali başlamış, ancak dini farklılıklar, yolların harap olması, eski Roma sosyo-ekonomik düzeninin bozulma noktasına gelmesi gibi sebepler nedeniyle bölgenin dinamikleri değişmiş, bu sırada gerçekleşen Frank istilaları nedeniyle bölgede istikrarlı bir yapı oluşturulması ancak Toledo Krallığı döneminde mümkün olmuştur. Ancak bu nispeten istikrarlı yapı bile bölgedeki Roma idari, kültürel ve sosyo-ekonomik sisteminin büyük yara almasının önüne geçememiş ve gelecek yüzyıllarda da süregelecek olan yeni Hispania yaşamının önünü açmıştır.

The Visigoths' Invasion of Hispania and Their Initial Activities in the Region

Abstract

The Visigoth invasion of Hispania was a prolonged and arduous process. The Visigoth Kingdom, which initially obtained rights as a foederati in the region in 418 AD under the reign of Theodoric I as a consequence of a collaborative endeavor with the Roman Empire and was still governed from Toulouse, commenced acting independently from the Euric period onwards, acquiring substantial territories in both Gaul and Hispania. During this process, the transition of the Vandals to North Africa and the disintegration of Western Rome also facilitated the work of the Visigoths, and the influence of the Visigoths in Hispania was increased by confining the Suevi to the northwest of the region. While the Visigoths maintained a persistent presence in the region as foederati, their role was predominantly that of laborers who engaged in agricultural activities and contributed to the taxation system. The occupation of the region commenced during the Euric period; however, the region's dynamics underwent significant alterations due to religious differences, the destruction of roads, the deterioration of the old Roman socio-economic order, and the Frankish invasions that occurred during this period. It was only during the Kingdom of Toledo that a stable structure could be established in the region. However, even this relatively stable structure proved ineffective in preventing the Roman administrative, cultural, and socio-economic system in the region from being severely damaged, paving the way for the new Hispania that would continue for centuries to come.
