SPOR BİLİMLERİ FAKÜLTESİNDEKİ SPORCU ÖĞRENCİLERDE ALEKSİTİMİ VE SAKATLIK

Year 2020, Volume: 22 Issue: 1, 24 - 30, 26.03.2020

Abstract

ALEXITHYMIA AND SPORTS INJURIES IN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF SPORTS SCIENCES FACULTY

Year 2020, Volume: 22 Issue: 1, 24 - 30, 26.03.2020

Abstract

Although environmental factors are frequently mentioned in connection with sports injuries, it is useful to examine the psychological factors behind them. The present study sought to examine the relationship between athletes injuring themselves or another athlete and alexithymia. Using power analysis, the study examined 151 athletes from two different state universities in Istanbul and Ankara. The results show that alexithymia and subscale scores of do not differ significantly by gender in student-athletes of sports sciences faculty. The total alexithymia score, the subscale of difficulty identifying feelings, and the subscale of difficulty describing feelings do not differ significantly, regardless of whether another athlete is injured. A significant difference was found, however, between the externally-oriented thinking sub-dimension and injuring another athlete. Athletes who injure another athlete have lower externally-oriented thinking scores, while athletes who do not injure another athlete have higher scores in this dimension. Alexithymia and subscale scores do not differ significantly regardless of whether the athlete is injured. Findings are discussed in light of related literature.
