Evaluation Of Loss Of Occlusion And İncrease İn Joint Disorder With Splint: Case Report

Abstract

Purpose: Large number of treatment methods have been suggested so far in order to treat the functional disorders related to the temporomandibular joint(TMJ) and masticatory muscles. One of them is occlusion splint therapy. In this case report, improper splint which was applied to the patient during the laboratory procedures and its effects on occlusion and TMJ complication and treatment will be represented. Case: A 24 year old woman consulted to our department with the complaint of nonocclusion and pain on the TMJ regions. Her anamnesis revealed that a dentist applied the patient an improper splint, the patient had some psychological problems. Clinical examination revealed muscle spazm, functional pain and loss of occlusion. Movement restriction and heat compression with the medical therapy was recommended to the patient. It was consulted to the Psychiatry and Orthodontics departments. Occlusal rehabilitation was provided in specific intervals. Result: The 1st, 2nd and 5th month controls of the patient have been done. At the 5th control improvement was observed in the symptoms and masticatory function was ordered.

Splinte Bağlı Artan Okluzyon Kaybı ve Eklem Rahatsızlığının Değerlendirilmesi: Vaka Sunumu

Abstract

Amaç: Temporomandibular eklem ve çiğneme kasları ile ilişkili fonksiyon bozukluklarını tedavi etmek için bugüne kadar çeşitli tedavi yöntemleri önerilmiştir. Bu tedavi seçeneklerinden birisi de oklüzal splint tedavisidir. Bu vaka raporunda laboratuvar işlemleri sırasında yanlış hazırlanan ve hastaya uygulanan splintin okluzyon ve eklem üzerinde oluşturduğu komplikasyon ve tedavisi sunulacaktır. Vaka: 24 yaşında bayan hasta eklem bölgelerinde ağrı ve dişlerinin kapatamama şikayeti ile kliniğimize başvurdu. Alınan anamnez ve yapılan klinik muayenede, daha önce bir başka hekim tarafından uygulanan hatalı splint ve psikiyatrik problemlere bağlı olarak temporomandibuler eklemde kas spazmı ile birlikte, fonksiyonda ağrı ve oklüzyon kaybı olduğu görülmüştür. Hastaya medikal tedaviyle birlikte hareket kısıtlaması ve sıcak kompresyon önerildi. Psikiyatri ve ortodonti konsültasyonuna başvuruldu. Belirli aralıklarla oklüzal rehabilitasyon sağlandı. Sonuç: Hastanın 1. 2. ve 5. ay kontrolleri yapılmıştır. 5. ay itibari ile semptomlarda düzelme sağlanmış ve çiğneme fonksiyonu düzenlenmiştir
