Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, bir Türk popülasyonunda gömük ikinci molarların prevalansını, bu dişlerle ilgili patolojileri, semptomları ve tedavi yöntemini tespit etmekti. Materyal ve Metot: Bu retrospektif çalışmada, ocak 1998 ile ocak 2008 tarihleri arasında kliniğimize başvuran 8100 hastanın panoramik radyografi ve klinik kayıtlarını değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Toplam 15 hastada 25 adet gömük maksillar ve mandibular ikinci molar diş vardı (%0.18). Bunlardan sekizi (%53) kadın (yaş ortalaması: 17–30), yedisi (%47) erkekti (yaş ortalaması: 15–40). Patolojik değişiklikler ve semptomlar hastaların %20’sinde kaydedildi. Sonuçlar: Bizim bulgularımız, gömük ikinci molarların profilaktik olarak çekilmesinin gerekli olmayabileceğini öne sürmektedir. Gömük ikinci molarlar sadece bir patolojiyle ilişkili olduklarında veya protetik veya ortodontik tedavi için çekim gerektiğinde çekilmelidirler. Diğer yandan, ikinci moların erüpsiyonuna engel olan anormal pozisyonlu üçüncü moların çekimi ikinci moların erüpsiyonuna olanak sağlayabilir
