Abstract

Diş çürüğü birçok epidemiyolojik nedene dayalı oluşabilen ancak kontrol edilebilir bir hastalıktır. Buna rağmen, diş çürükleri ve periodontal hastalıklar, dünyanın birçok ülkesinde en önemli halk sağlığı problemlerinin başında gelmektedir. Koruyucu diş hekimiği uygulamaları, 1930’lu yıllardan itibaren başlayarak, özellikle 6-11 yaş grubu çocuklara yönelik ağız ve diş sağlığı hizmetleriyle ön plana çıkmıştır. Özellikle Türkiye gibi gelişmekte olan ve koruyucu diş hekimliği uygulamalarının henüz yaygınlaşmadığı ülkelerde, restoratif dental tedavilerin çeşitliliğine rağmen çocuklarda bakteriyel dental plağa bağlı olarak gelişen çürük ve periodontal hastalıkların önlenememesi koruyucu dental tedavilerin önemini daha çok vurgulamaktadır. Bununla birlikte ağız ve diş sağlığı problemleri, ciddi ekonomik ve sosyal sorunları da beraberinde getirmektedir. Bu nedenle, ağız ve diş sağlığının bozulmasından önce, koruyucu ve önleyici önlemlerin alınması ve tedavi hizmetlerinin konservatif yöntemlere doğru kaydırılması görüşü önem kazanmıştır. Bu nedenlerden dolayı bu derlemede çocuklarda evde ve klinikte uygulanan koruyucu dental tedavi seçeneklerinin ekinliklerinin güncel klinik çalışmaların ışığı altında gözden geçirilmesi amaçlanmıştır
