Abstract

Oral malignant melanoma (OMM) accounts for 0.5% of all oral malignancies which are generally localized in hard and soft plate or gingival tissues in oral cavity. It is suggested that this neoplasms are developing from melanocytes found in the basal layer of the oral mucosa. The malignant melanomas of oral soft tissues are described as oral mucosal malignant melanoma and they should be clearly established in the clinical examination. These lesions are rare but they have aggressive and metastatic character. So, they have an unequivocal bad prognosis. Therefore, the diagnosis may be delayed because of their asymptomatic progression. In this paper, we aimed to present a multidisciplinary treatment method of 52 year-old female patient with oral mucosal melanoma and to emphasize importance of early diagnosis of these lesions

ORAL MUKOZAL MALİGN MELANOMA : OLGU SUNUMU

Abstract

Oral bölgede genellikle yumuşak ve sert damak veya dişetlerinde lokalize olan malign melanomalar, tüm oral malignitelerin %0,5’ini oluşturur. Bu neoplazmların oral mukozanın bazal tabakasında bulunan melanositlerden geliştiği düşünülmektedir. Ağız yumuşak dokularında görülen malign melanomalar, oral mukozal malign melanoma olarak tanımlanırlar ve klinik muayenede belirgin olarak gözlemlenebilir. Bu lezyonlar nadir görülmekle birlikte agresif ve metastatik karakterlidir. Bu nedenle prognozları oldukça kötüdür. Ayrıca, asemptomatik seyrettikleri için teşhis edilmeleri gecikmektedir. Bu makalede, 52 yaşındaki bir kadın hastada görülen oral mukozal malign melanoma olgusunun multidisipliner tedavi yaklaşımını sunmak ve bu lezyonların erken teşhisinin önemini vurgulamak amaçlandı.
