MANDİBULAR GÖMÜLÜ 3.MOLAR CERRAHİ ÇEKİM SONRASI KOMPLİKASYONLAR VE EL TERCİHİ ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ

Year 2018, Volume: 28 Issue: 4, 492 - 497, 14.10.2018

Abstract

Amaç: Mandibular 3.molar çekim sonrası ameliyat bölgesinde kötü
oral hijyen, inflamasyon, alveoler

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HANDEDNESS AND POSTOPERATIVE COMPLICATIONS IN SURGICAL REMOVAL OF IMPACTED MANDIBULAR  THIRD MOLARS

Aim: Following the impacted third molar extraction, complications could be
developed on the operation site, such as poor oral hygiene, alveolar osteitis,
and inflammation. The aim of the study was to investigate these complications
following the mandibular third molar extraction in patients with different hand
preference.

Material and Methods: Forty three patients who were indicated for bilateral surgical extraction
of impacted mandibular third molars were included in the study. The interval
between the extraction of the right and left molars of the patient was 30 days.
The patients were divided into four groups; 1) Left Handed- Right Impacted
Mandibular Third Molar Extracted, 2) Left Handed- Left Impacted Mandibular
Third Molar Extracted, 3) Right Handed- Right Impacted Mandibular Third Molar
Extracted, and 4) Right Handed- Left Impacted Mandibular Third Molar Extracted.
The patients were evaluated for oral hygiene before and after the operation on
7th day. The inflammation and the presence of
alveolar osteitis were assessed on 2nd and 7th
postoperative days in all groups of patients.

Results: The
statistical significance was not observed between
the groups regarding the oral hygiene,
inflam
-
mation,
and occurrence of alveolar osteitis.

(P>0.05)

Conclusion: The results suggest that hand preference may not be related to the development
of
inflammation,
alveolar osteitis, and worsening of the oral hygiene
following the mandibular third molar extraction.
