Abstract

Devlet okulundaki 60 velinin  %68’i (n=41) çocuklarına okulda   topikal florür verniği  uygulaması
yapılmasına  izin  verirken, özel  okuldaki
70 veliden %43’ü (n=30)
çocuklarına  okulda uygulama  yapılmasına
izin  vermiştir.  Devlet okulunda topikal florür verniği
uygulanmasına izin vermeyen 19 velinin %15,8’i
(n=3) uygulama hakkında yeterince bilgilendirilmediğini,  %26,3’ü (n=5) uygulamanın uygun ortamda
yapıldığını düşünmediğini, %26,3’ü (n=5)
ise florürün  zararlı  olduğunu
düşündüğünü bildirmiştir.     Özel
okulda topikal florür verniği uygulamasının yapılmasına izin vermeyen  40 velinin %5’i(n=2)  uygulama
hakkında  yeterince  bilgilendirilmediğini, %22,5’i (n=9)   uygulamanın
uygun  ortamda  yapıldığını
düşünmediğini, %42,5’i (n=17) florürün zararlı  olduğunu

 ASSESSMENT
ATTITUDES OF PARENTS ABOUT  APPLICATION
OF  FLUORIDE VARNISH IN SCHOOL-BASED
PROGRAMME

AIM: The purpose of this study; is the assessment
of   attitudes of parents in two
different socio-economic classes about the school-based topical fluoride
application programme which carried out by the Ministry of Health.

MATERIALS
AND METHOD:
Parents of 1st and
2nd grade children who completed 60 months at Bayrampaşa Elementary School and
ITU Development Foundation Schools included to the study. The data obtained
using the questionnaire and than were evaluated.

RESULTS:
Parents of the 60 children in the
public school 68%(n=41), gave permission for their children to apply topical
fluoride in school, while 43%(n=30) of the 70parents in the private school.
Sixteen of the parents(n=3)  of the
children(n=19) who didn’t allow the application of topical fluoride in the public
school stated that they  were not adequately
informed about the application, 26,3%(n=5) of them didn’t  think it was done in the appropriate
environment and  26,3%(n=5) of them think
that  fluoride is toxic. Five (n=2) of
the parents of the children (n=40) who didn’t allow the application of topical
fluoride in the private school stated that they
were not adequately informed about the application, 22,5%(n=9)of them
did not think it was done in the appropriate environment and  42,5%(n=17) of them think that  fluoride is toxic.

CONCLUSION:
In countries where oral and
dental health problems are common, topical fluoride applications play an
important role in community oral health programs and preventive dentistry. It
has become necessary to inform the parents in detail about preventive practices,
which have an important place in the community dental health improvement
programs.
