DİŞ GELİŞİMİNİN BELİRLENMESİNDE DEMİRJİAN VE MOORREES YÖNTEMLERİ KULLANILARAK İKİ FARKLI ARAŞTIRMACI ARASINDAKİ UYUMUN DEĞERLENDİRİLMESİ

Abstract

Assessment of compliance between two different researchers by using Demirjian and Moorrees methods in determining tooth development
ABSTRACT
Aim: The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate Demirjian and Moorrees methods used in the evaluation of tooth development stages by two different researchers and determine the compliance between researchers.
Material and Methods: In this study, 382 panoramic radiographs were evaluated by two different researchers in terms of the development stages of premolar and molar permanent teeth by using Demirjian and Moorrees methods. After the evaluation of the intra-examiner kappa test scores for each researcher found sufficient, also the inter-examiner Kappa test scores were evaluated to determine the compliance between these two researchers for each evaluation method. According to the statistical analysis, significance between the values was accepted as p<0.05.
Results: According to the data obtained from the evaluation of each method, intra-examiner kappa scores were determined as 0.84 and 0.81 for Demirjian method, 0.86 and 0.90 for Moorrees method. Although adequate compliance was observed for both evaluation methods for each researcher, it was also observed that Moorrees method had higher kappa test scores than Demirjian method, but not statistically significant (p≥0.05).
Conclusion: It might be concluded that both Demirjian and Moorrees methods were similarly compatible eventhough applied by two different researchers. So, both methods might be used safely to determine tooth development stages in longer term studies.
