Abstract

The production of goods has started to increase in every field of industry with the developments in the world from past to present, and the consumption has also increased accordingly. Since the human beings have an endless tendency to consume, ecological balance has been damaged. Actually, a lot of material that we think we consume and describe as waste material can be reused. Disposable glass bottle, paper, plastics are examples of this argument. Today, the artists produce works to make a reference to this situation and to make use of these materials. The people have been using jewelry sometimes for ornamentation, to look good, to show commitment to someone (spouse or God etc.), and it has also been used on special days and for rituals since the day they have existed. Whatever the purpose is, it is an inevitable fact that jewelry has been a part of the life of human beings. Primitive people ornamented themselves with the bones of the animals that they had hunted or from the branches of trees. However they ornament themselves with different materials today. The material of jewelry for human beings is endless today. The individual can choose the material for their visual, aesthetical or spiritual tastes. In this article, the use of waste ceramics material in contemporary jewelry design is going to be studied and eclectic samples of works which are composed by the phenomena of ceramics waste material and jewelry within the artistic and aesthetical context are going to be presented
