Abstract

SUMMARY

In this paper, methods of computer aided composition throughout the histodeill growth of computer musie as well as the new directions in this field are surveyed. Fol/owing an examination of the concept of 'algorUhmie composition', main approaches to computer aided composition are classified and examplified. Brief explanations of methods collaboreted by varjous topics such as artifidal intelligence, fractals, iterated funet/ons, neural networks, Markov chains, eel/u/ar automata and genetic a/gorithms are given, outlining notable examp/es ofpast and current research in this field.
