Abstract

Factors Which Effect Mental Health of Caregivers of Schizophrenia Patients: Socio-Demographic Characteristics and Stress Coping Styles Purpose: This study was carried out to determine that an exploration of factors which effect mental health of caregivers of schizophrenia patients. Methods: This study is a descriptive study. The universe of study included caregivers of schizophrenia patients in the psychiatry outpatient clinics of two university hospitals and to an association schizophrenia patients and caregivers in İzmir. The purposive sampling method was used. The sample consisted of 103 caregivers. Data were collected with Socio-demographics questionnaire, Styles of Coping Inventory and General Health Questionnaire. Findings: In the study, it was found that 65% of the caregivers were at risk of mental health mortality. Factors associated with poor mental health were female gender (t=2.33, p=0.021), low education level (F=17.05, p= 0.001), not attended continuous training programs and using of emotion-focused copingmethods(p= 0.001). Conclusions: Factors associated with mental health in the caregivers were gender, education level, employment status, participation in programs on schizophrenia and coping style. It is recommended to investigate other factors (express emotion, burden) influencing mental health of caregivers and to carry out programs to increase the mental wellness of the caregivers.

ŞİZOFRENİ HASTASINA BAKIM VERENLERİN RUH SAĞLIĞINI ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER: SOSYODEMOGRAFİK DEĞİŞKENLER VE STRESLE BAŞA ÇIKMA TARZLARI

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, şizofreni hastasına bakım verenlerin ruh sağlığını etkileyen faktörleri
incelemektir.
Yöntem: Araştırma tanımlayıcı niteliktedir. araştırmanın evrenini İzmir’de iki üniversite hastanesinin
psikiyatri polikliniği ve Şizofreni Dayanışma Derneği’ne gelen şizofreni hastalarına bakım verenler oluşturdu.
Amaçlı örneklem yöntemi kullanıldı, Örneklem 103 bakım verenden oluştu. Veriler sosyo-demografik özellikler
soru formu, Stresle Başa Çıkma Tarzları Ölçeği ve Genel Sağlık Anketi-12 kullanılarak toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Çalışmada bakım verenlerin %65’inde ruhsal sağlık sorunu bulunma olasılığının olduğu
görülmüştür. Ruh sağlığında bozulmayla ilişkili değişkenler kadın cinsiyet (t= 2.33, p= 0.021), düşük eğitim
düzeyi (F=17.05, p= 0.001), çalışmama (U= 496.0, p=0.001), sürekliliği olan eğitim programında yer almama
(U= 237.5, p=0.001) ve baş etmede duyguya odaklı yöntemlerin kullanımı olarak saptanmıştır (p= 0.001).
Sonuç: Bakım verenin; cinsiyeti, eğitim durumu, çalışma durumu, şizofreni ile ilgili programlara
katılım durumu ve başetmede kullandığı yöntemler ruh sağlığını etkileyen değişkenlerdir. Bakım verenlerin
ruhsal sağlık durumlarını etkileyebileceği düşünülen diğer değişkenlerin (duygu ifadesi, yük) araştırılması ve
bakım verenlerin ruh sağlığını korumaya ve geliştirmeye yönelik programların hazırlanması ve uygulanması
önerilmektedir.
