Abstract

Hangi populasyona ait oldukları kesinlikle bilinmeyen fertlerin
ayırım ve sınıflandırılmalanm konu edinen diskriminont analizinin
genel teorisi incelenmiştir. Optimum sınıflandırma kaidesi çok değişkenli populasyonlar için izah edilerek teori kesikli dağıfış ıgösteren populasyonlar için de genelleştirilmişrir.
Araştırmada diskriminan! analizi ile ilg;/i yanlış sınıflanfırma ihtimalleri, kalitatif verilerle yapılan sınıflandınma, değişkenlerin seçimi ve kayıp müşahadeler gibi konular ele alınarak bunlara ait çeşitli metodların mukayesesi yapılmıştır.

A RESEARCH ON DISCRIMINANT ANALYSIS AND SOME RELATED TOPICS

In this reseacrh the general theory
of discriminant analysis and some related
topi-es such as probalitiy of misclassification,
choosing the best variables
and the estimation of the missing
observations were considered.
The poblem of classifieation aries
when an investigator makes a number
of measurements on an individual and
wishes to Cıassify the individual into
one of several pupulations on the basis

and ~ is the variance - covariance

was obtained by inkoving the simulation techniques and gathering observations
on the student records.
Comparing five of the methods

of misclassification, two of them were
found to be the best.
Applieation of two different was
iHustrated for the classifieation with
the multivariate' qualitative data. The
effeet of replacing anonnal variate by
a qualitative variate was alsa mentioned
for a speeial ease.
The advantages and disadvantagcs
of the two methods proposed toestimate the missing observations were
diseussed.
In the last part of the resareh same
whieh are used to selleet the best variables
for diseriminant funetion were
eonsidered. The relation between the
multiple regression equation and the
diseriminant function was iliustrated,
and the possibility of the use of one
of the regression teehniques was pointed
out for seleeting the best variables
of the discriminant funetion.
