Book Publishing in South America: Historical Development and Contemporary Issues

Abstract

This article examines the historical development of book publishing in South American countries, focusing on the formation of publishing networks in the late 19th and 20th centuries, the rise of popular and educational literature, and the impact of digitalization and the e-book market in the 21st century. The analysis demonstrates that the region’s publishing industry has been shaped by the interplay of historical, political, economic, and technological factors. The study also highlights South America's growing integration into the global literary and digital publishing landscape, underscoring its strategic role in preserving cultural identity and expanding readership.
