The Azerbaijani city of Shusha in the 19th and 20th century USA Press

Yıl 2022, Azerbaycan Kültür Başkenti Şuşa’nın 270. Yılı Armağan Sayısı/ The 270th-anniversary special issue of Şuşa, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, 69 - 84, 20.11.2022

The fact that the materials on the history and culture of the city of Shusha, which were reflected in the US media, have so far been ignored and not studied, this made us want to fill this gap relatively and pave the way for researchers who want to work in this direction. Because the timeframe we set for our research was quite long, we focused more on material of 19th and 20th century of the American press. First of all, we note that the information of the representatives of the foreign press about Shusha was mainly based on information received from St. Petersburg and was mainly in the form of the interests of the tsarist government, as well as the West, especially in favor of the Armenians. However, even among such information, we can find valuable materials about the history of the city of Shusha, proving that this city was and is the cultural and historical center of the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. Note that the materials we studied are based on articles from newspapers published in the US states - Pennsylvania, Vermont, Virginia, Michigan, Maryland, Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Tennessee, Washington, Ohio, Kansas, South Dakota, North Carolina.

Azərbaycan şəhəri Şuşa XIX-XX əsr ABŞ mətbuatında

Şuşa şəhərinin tarixinə və mədəniyyətinə dair ABŞ mətbuatında öz əksini tapan materialların indiyə qədər diqqətdən kənarda qalması, tədqiq olunmaması bizdə bu boşluğu nisbətən də doldurmaq, az da olsa bu istiqamətdə müəyyən işlər görmək istəyən tədqiqatçılar üçün cığır açmaq istəyi yaratdı. Tədqiq etmək üçün müəyyən etdiyimiz xronoloji çərçivə kifayət qədər böyük olduğundan biz daha çox ABŞ mətbuatının XIX-XX əsr materiallarına diqqət yetirdik. Əvvəlcədən qeyd edək ki, Şuşa ilə bağlı xarici mətbuat nümayəndələrinin məlumatları əsasən Sankt-Peterburqdan əldə edilən məlumatlara əsaslandığına görə əsasən çar hökumətinin, eləcə də Qərbin maraqlarına uyğun formada, xüsusilə də ermənilərin xeyrinə olurdu. Bununla belə, hətta bu cür məlumatların içərisində də Şuşa tarixinə, onun Azərbaycanın Qarabağ bölgəsinin mədəniyyəti mərkəzi, tarixi şəhəri olmasını sübut edən dəyərli materiallara təsadüf etmək olur. Qeyd edək ki, tədqiq etdiyimiz materiallar ABŞ-ın Pensilvaniya, Vermont, Virciniya, Miçiqan, Merilənd, İllinoys, Mississippi, Missuri, Nyu-York, Luiziana, Massaçusets, Montana, Tennessi, Vaşinqton, Ohayo, Kanzas, Cənubi Dakota, Şimali Karolina ştatlarında çap olunan qəzetlərin məqalələrinə əsaslanır.
