The Relationship Between Teachers' 21st Century Skills and Their Job Satisfaction
Abstract
Today's rapidly changing and increasingly complex environment, individuals need 21st century skills. 21st century teachers, who must have the relevant skills, stand out in providing these skills to 21st century students. The purpose of this research is to reveal the teachers' skills required by the age in the 21st century, which is characterized by basic features such as constantly increasing knowledge in a short time, rapid change and technology; and the relationship between this situation and their job satisfaction. The sample of the study, which used the quantitative research method and was designed in the relational screening model, consists of 840 teachers selected through multi-stage sampling method working at the secondary school level in the central districts of Ankara province. Personal Information Form, 21st Century Teacher Skills Scale and Minnesota Job Satisfaction Scale were used to collect the data. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques such as t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and regression. According to the research results, teachers' perceptions of 21st century skill levels and job satisfaction are high. As these skills increase, job satisfaction increases and there is a weak but significant relationship between them. Teachers' 21st century skills are a significant predictor of their job satisfaction. Strategies focusing on pedagogy, curriculum and skill acquisition are thought to be important in further developing these skills, ensuring their continuity and, consequently, in helping teachers achieve a certain level of satisfaction.
