The Relation of Revelation to Culture

Abstract

In this study, I will argue that to what extent the cultural and historical context determine the Christian and the Islamic revelation, through analyzing the approaches of Swinburne and Watt to the issue. One of the basic factors which determine the nature of divine religions is revelation. There are different types of revelation which forms the basic means of God’s communication with people. The written process of the Christian revelation, its formation in the course of time and the influence of the Church on this process constitute the problems which are peculiar to the Christian revelation. On the other hand the Qur’anic revelation is determined in terms of words and meaning by God. Hence, this dimension creates it own characteristics. The problems related to the Qur’anic revelation must be addressed and discussed upon this essential characteristic
